Sweating is necessary to control your body temperature when it is warm or in hot weather, or even when exercising. However, a small proportion of the population can sweat excessively even when they are not hot or exercising. This condition is known as hyperhidrosis and generally affects people from 18 to 54 years of age. Men and women are both equally affected and it usually develops in a person’s teenage years; although it can start at any age. People can find the condition embarrassing, and this worrying can often make it worse. Certain things, such as anxiety, spicy foods, heat or certain illnesses can increase the effects of Hyperhidrosis.

Hyperhidrosis can be either primary or secondary. Primary hyperhidrosis is more common and usually causes excessive sweating in the face, hands, feet and armpits. Secondary hyperhidrosis affects the whole body.

Anti-wrinkle injections can be effective in stopping excessive sweating. Injections such as Dysport / Botox have been widely used for the treatment of hyperhidrosis, especially in the underarms, face and scalp. Anti-wrinkle injections work by stopping the nerve signal to the sweat glands in the area it is injected into. The underarms are the most common area treated by anti-wrinkle injections. Anti-wrinkle injections have been proven to be highly effective in the treatment of Hyperhidrosis.
